COURAGE TO CARE SURVIVOR TESTIMONY FILMING

Ordinary People – Extraordinary Acts

Courage to Care is undertaking a new Survivor Testimony Project, which will create audio/visual recordings of Holocaust survivors recounting their stories to form a testimony library that can be used for various future projects. Courage to Care highlights historical acts of courage in order to create an understanding of how every individual has the ability to stand up to racism and discrimination.

Among the most important reasons for this project is the opportunity to re-humanise individual victims. What stands Courage to Care apart from other testimony projects is that a central motivation for recording these personal accounts is to expose the moments that a bystander/bystanders had the courage to intervene and show kindness to a Jewish person, often at great personal risk.

These individual stories help develop understanding of what the Holocaust meant at a personal level and what a difference an individual can make to a person’s life. Through hearing these first-hand accounts, an emotional element is applied to the history and the issues become more relevant.

Courage to Care is an educational program and travelling exhibition that empowers individuals to stand up against discrimination. To provoke conversations about social justice and bystander intervention, Holocaust survivors recount their stories of rescue to program participants. Through an interactive workshop, the program encourages participants to develop empathy and take positive action in their everyday lives.

Courage to Care encourages the development of an intelligent, peaceful society, with understanding and respect for all minority groups.

Filming will begin on the 9th January 2017 at the B’nai B’rith Centre at UNSW.
